The Long Term Plan

This post is actually about what I hope to accomplish with writing, and my life’s goal.

Thursday I talked about my marketing strategy for A Long Walk. The end goal of course is to be a full time writer, or at least have that be my default source of income. There’s more to it though.

Right now I live in Canada, specifically Halifax, Nova Scotia. The things I love about living here are that the people in my life are here, and my job (which I actually love a great deal) is also here. However, I don’t like the place all that much these days. I’m also really not good at cold weather, which is the only kind we have here. So, I’m planning to move. Not for seven years or so, but eventually. I will be moving somewhere that doesn’t have winter.

Personally I’m drawn to jungles. Ideally, I would live in a town on the edge of the jungle, next to the ocean. That may or may not be possible, but I am absolutely going to live somewhere with warm weather and an ocean. If the money my writing brings in goes further in that place, even better.

Maybe it’s too much Ian Fleming in my life, or having lived in Paradise as a teenager. I can’t help but feel that there are better alternatives to this way of living…
