Liking your characters

This is something I struggle with. I write a lot of characters I don’t really like all that much. I mean, I don’t like them as people, I like them as characters. For example, my lead character in my current story is kind of, well, not someone I like all that much. He’s not a bad guy, just not someone I would hang out with.

Sometimes it’s hard to do, to write a person I don’t actually like that much. A guy who is the kind of person I wouldn’t hang out with. It’s not so much that I don’t want good things to happen for the character, as that I have trouble putting myself in their headspace.
